ATAR (AUSTRALIAN TERTIARY ADMISSION RANK)

ATAR (AUSTRALIAN TERTIARY ADMISSION RANK)

Thursday, 11 June 2009

On 10 June 2009, the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) announced that the university rank, that is currently known as the Universities Admissions Index (UAI), is changing to the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).

This will be effective for Year 12 students in 2009.

The UAC states that ‘the changes are designed to achieve national consistency in the name and reporting of the university selection index’. It also states that it ‘decided to adopt a common name for existing ranks across all states and territories (except Queensland)to highlight that student ranks are reported on a common scale’ and ‘the use of a common name will emphasise this equivalence of interstate ranks.’

There are a couple of minor changes that will come with the name change from UAI to ATAR, however, more importantly UAC claims that the scaling process will remain the same, the rank order of students will be the same, and the students’ ability to be selected for the university course of their choice will also remain the same.

Please refer to the 'FAQs about the change from UAI to ATAR' document from UAC. For for more information regarding the change from UAI to ATAR and the scaling process, please attend our ATAR and Scaling Talk on 27th June 2009. Please click here to register.
