We know exactly what it takes to succeed in the HSC.

Matrix teachers train students to understand key concepts behind the theory, as opposed to memorising information. Matrix Theory Booklets help students to arrive at an in-depth understanding of the syllabus material.

Matrix teachers have HSC exam marking experience and/or extensive experience in writing assessments and exams, and thus they know exactly how to maximise marks in school and HSC exams. Our students are taught the most effective exam techniques. Matrix Work Booklets consist of various exam-style questions to help students practice these skills.

Through repetition and close monitoring, Matrix teachers ensure every student understands and masters all facets of the course content.

Niven Kumar

English

English Teacher

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Arts (Hons), Australian National University

Master of Social Science, University of Singapore

Ph.D Candidate (English), Macquarie University

Experience:

Niven has been teaching English for fifteen years, both in Australia and overseas. He has extensive experience working with students studying English as a Second Language at secondary and tertiary levels, and his detailed knowledge of the HSC English syllabus has enabled his students to achieve excellent results. He teaches English and Drama at Macquarie University and is a guest lecturer at Notre Dame University.

Dr Malcolm Green

Chemistry

Position:

Chemistry Teacher

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Advanced Science (Hons)

Ph.D in Chemistry, University of Sydney (USYD)

Experience:

Malcolm has taught a range of scientific disciplines including Chemistry, Geology and Physics at secondary and tertiary levels at the University of Sydney. He has a strong background in a wide range of analytical chemical skills and has previously worked as an environmental consultant. As a research chemist, he has also published 2 patents in the field of nanotechnology.

Why I love teaching at Matrix:

Malcolm enjoys working at Matrix teaching enthusiastic students to explore chemistry. He also enjoys the opportunity of imparting the skills for greatest subject of all - Science.

Francesca Christie

English

Position: English Teacher

Qualifications: MA, BA, Dip Ed

Background: Francesca has taught at secondary level and lectured at university level. She has worked in alternative dispute resolution, marketing and communication, and magazine publishing. She works as a freelance editor and writer.

Experience: Francesca has extensive experience teaching junior and senior English and ESL at secondary level and has lectured in the Faculties of Education and Law at the University of NSW, and the Australian Graduate School of Management

Why I love to teach at Matrix: It is inspiring to teach such committed and engaged students. It is also a joy to work with teaching staff whose experience and quality mean that Matrix students receive the best support and education.

Dr Bobby Gaensler

Maths

Position:

Senior Mathematics Teacher

Qualifications:

Diploma of Education, University of Sydney

Bachelor of Science, University of Sydney

Master of Arts, Pure Mathematics major, University of Sydney

Ph.D in Mathematics Education, Georgia State University, USA

Experience:

Bobby has approximately 40 years Mathematics teaching experience. She has 13 years experience teaching at NSW high schools including Sydney Girls high school, Wenona Girls School, and Pymble Ladies College; during which she held the post of Mathematics Coordinator. Bobby has 15 years experience of teaching Mathematics at TAFE and has lectured Mathematics at Georgia State University, USA. She is also an Executive Officer at the Mathematical Association of NSW (MANSW).

Matrix has a wonderful learning environment. I am constantly surprised by the students here who WANT to learn! The students here are ideal students in every way and the staff are so helpful. I am so happy to be here!

Mark Thackray

English

Position:

English Teacher

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Arts with a Mass Communication major, Macquarie University

Bachelor of Secondary Education, University of Queensland

Master of Arts, Macquarie University

Experience:

Mark has 6 years English teaching experience in numerous countries, ranging from kindergarten to University levels. Most recently Mark taught Media Studies at Saint George’s Church of English High School in Kent, English. He has also worked as a journalist, sub-editor and is a published author.
