Year 12 Physics
COURSE OVERVIEW
Year 12 Physics course builds on the Preliminary Physics course content giving students the opportunity to draw together different areas of Physics and solve real-world problems.
Topics covered in each term:
- Term 1: Space
- Term 2: Motors and Generators
- Term 3: From Ideas to Implementation
- Term 4: Option Topic + HSC revision
Matrix Education offers the following Option Topics. Students are required to complete one of the options.
- Medical Physics
- Astrophysics
- From Quanta to Quarks
During each lesson, students develop:
- a strong conceptual understanding of the fundamental ideas of science through simple explanations and practical demonstrations
- strong writing skills for producing clear, concise answers to exam-style questions
- the ability to solve a wide range of numerical problems. Teachers first demonstrate the solutions to various example questions, before turning students loose on Concept Checks in the Theory Booklets
Students receive:
- Weekly Theory Booklets, which cover all the content of the HSC Physics syllabus in detail.
- Weekly Work Booklets for homework, which consist of HSC exam-style questions. This allow students to develop independent problem-solving skills and prepare them for the exams at school.
- Topic Test. Students perform the test under strict exam conditions. This gives students an opportunity to practise exam techniques acquired and assess their progress before they sit for school exams
- Timely Feedback on homework, weekly quizzes and topic tests.
- Additional help with homework. Students can attend ‘Workshops’ and receive individual assistance with homework.
- Additional help with their school work. Students can consult the Physics Coordinator for further assistance with school work or to clarify conceptual difficulties.
